Design Strategy

Design strategy is about balancing user needs with business goals and ensuring the technical implementations are feasible. As a consultant I’ve helped clients implement design strategies in their businesses in order to create better experience for their internal users and customers. Some of the techniques that I use are:

  • Conducting formative research to understand customer demand, behaviour, expectations and needs.

  • Competitor analysis and market trends analysis.

  • Design Sprints to quickly test and validate products before investing too much time and capital.

  • Validating product ideas with research before investing, testing price points with customers.

  • Lean product validation: Analysing competitors and market, user research and business goals.

  • Streamlining internal processes in order to provide better customer experiences.

  • Business Modelling and value proposition.

  • Defining the roadmap to enable clients to implement AI solutions in their business.

  • Lifestage analysis and behaviour.

  • Identifying User segments & key personas.

  • Identifying highest value persona to business.

  • Taking a ‘jobs to be done’ approach to identify features and user needs.

  • Story maps based on user journey steps and jobs to be done.

The design thinking lens drives my methodology to not just focus on user needs, but balance requirements with business needs and goals as well as what technically possible or faster to release quickly to market in order to gain user feedback faster.

Breaking things up into modules helps me work with project teams more effectively in order to gain alignment and get a big picture upfront before diving too deeply into a project.
