Chemeleon Food Additive iOS App

In 2011 I was inspired to lead a more eco-friendly life. As part of my voyage to live a greener existence I began to question what I was eating and feeding my family. I noticed that ingredients lists were not clear and easy to decipher; they featured cryptic names and numbers which made me uneasy. In order to understand what it was that I was feeding my body I decided to create a mobile app that could easily tell me whether the ingredient that I entered was safe to eat or not.

I conducted competitor research and found all the other options difficult to use and cumbersome, as well as a little expensive. I researched every item available and simplified the content of each 1000+ ingredients to simple and easy to understand descriptions. I also came up with a simple way to let people quickly know whether the ingredient was ok to eat, by designing a cute Chameleon who changes colour depending on whether the ingredient is safe, unsafe or not clear (based on not enough evidence of whether its harmful or not harmful to our bodies).

Working with a developer and an extremely talented illustrator, I launched Chemeleon to the App Store, where it continuous to sell year after year. It even made it to Miranda Kers’s top 10 mobile apps just after it launched!
